In Search of Son Jarocho

What a musically satisfying summer this is turning out to be! In June I spent a little time in Veracruz, Mexico, where I soaked up the music and ate great food. Thanks to my friend Beto, I was lucky enough to take in some really joyful music-making. Check out our Colás medley...

Our version of Colás featuring our friends the VillaLobos brothers can be found on ¡Nueva York!

Welcome back to the states! The Disney show in Toms River, NJ Saturday was an all-out blast. Of our 5 or 6 DZAF shows to date, this was one of our favorites since we could dance in the great outdoors.

I hope my 5 year old comes to appreciate what horns add to rock and folk music. DZAF & They Might Be Giants gave him a great idea of what brass can do (and this is coming from a bass player!).

We love Nueva York! Although we now live in Lancaster, PA. It brings me back to my childhood growing up in Brooklyn. Your comment of having a good summer and eating GOOD food also brought me back to that time. I really miss living among diverse cultures and their food.

Anyway, we are looking forward to the "Block Party" in Philly tomorrow (Sat)! Even though my 2 year old son knows that he is going to see you soon, I think my husband and I are secretly more excited. We promise to leave our kazoos and harmonicas at home. :-)

Thanks for creating such wonderful music we can enjoy with our son. We've had to make copies of all your CD's so we wouldn't wear out the originals. We never get tired of listening to them. Thanks for saving us from the other kid cds!
